In the summer of 2002, several people in the Conejos Canyon recognized the need for a doctrinally-sound, Bible-based church.  The San Juan Mountain Baptist Church began meeting in a local home with several guest pastors.  During the 2003 summer season, the church met at the Red Bear Restaurant and winter meetings were held in private homes.

The church changed its name to San Juan Mountain Church in 2005.  The purpose for the name change was to better identify our multi-denominational congregation.  The following year, the church building site was purchased in Horca, Colorado.  Grading and excavation began along with the development of the building design plans.

With construction assistance from the Texas Baptist Builders, we were able to hold our first church service on October 5th, 2008 in the kitchen area of the new building.  Through the continued support of the Texas Baptist Builders, construction of the auditorium continued, and in 2009 we began meeting in our current building.

We have services each Sunday throughout the year.  Our congregation includes year-round families and mountain-loving seasonal residents and visitors.  The Lord has graciously and generously blessed this church as we continue to grow and reach out to the community.  To God be the glory!

Mission and Statement of Faith

Mission

The Church is God's spiritual family. It is made up of all those who have chosen to place their trust and faith in Jesus and who are His followers (disciples). The Church is not a building or one particular group of believers. To belong to the Church, is to belong to Jesus. The Bible uses the analogy that Jesus is the Head of the Church, which is His body. God's will is for the Church to gather regularly to worship it's Head, Jesus, to use its various gifts and abilities to serve it's Head, to love and encourage those who are in the body, and to work diligently to maintain the unity of the body.

As the members of His Church love one another and maintain unity of purpose and relationship, the world around us will recognize that we belong to Jesus. The Church or body is to seek to do the will of God, which also includes loving and evangelize the world through Jesus Christ.

Statement of Faith

We believe in the only true and living God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, as revealed in the Holy Bible and made known in Jesus Christ our Lord. We believe that Jesus the divine Son became human, was born of a virgin, ministered in word, deed and miracle, died for our sin, was raised bodily from the dead, ascended to God's right hand and is coming again for his people.

We believe that Jesus Christ established his Church on earth to carry out his saving mission among all people and transformed her to be one holy people. We believe in God's saving grace that calls all people to faith, repentance, confession, baptism, and new life and ministry through the Holy Spirit. We believe that the Bible is completely God-breathed, true in all its teaching, and the final authority for all matters of faith and practice. We believe that the Holy Spirit is presently ministering through Christians, empowering lives of godliness and gifting believers for service.
